Tribute To Our Troops

Hello Everyone, Happy Memorial Day :) I am grateful to all the men and women who have fought for our freedom. I am especially proud of my Father who served in Korea, he will be in my heart and thoughts even more so today. And my dear Father in Law who turned 85 this month, served in WWII. I am really happy for my Father in law too, he has a new girlfriend that is a sweetheart. I am glad to see him have some companionship since he lost his wife 3 yrs ago. Remember today when you are enjoying your freedom to really appreciate it, it did not come without the ultimate sacrifice from so many.

Commandments For A Good Life

Hello Everyone, Happy Friday! I hope all of you have a great weekend planned. One thing I'll be doing this weekend is celebrating my sweet little grandson's first birthday! Time just keeps flying by! I wish it would slow down a little bit already LOL! Yesterday I came across this blog named Marc and Angel Hack Life, Practical Tips for Productive Living on facebook. I find their 10 Commandments for a good life are simple and inspirational. I hope by sharing them with you today they give you a new perspective or insight that you might be needing. Personally, I am always looking for new insights to help keep my spirits up. I highly recommend clicking on the link below to visit their blog for many more inspirational posts.

A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often and realize how fortunate you are right now. It’s about the simple pleasures that make you happy, the compassionate deeds you perform, the personal goals you strive to achieve, the relationships you nurture and the legacy you leave behind. So starting today, choose to take control. Here are ten commandments to help you live a good life.

I. I am not perfect and I will not try to be.
Think of how many things don’t get done in this world simply because people are waiting for the perfect time, place and circumstance. The real world doesn’t reward perfectionists. It rewards people who get things done. And the only way to get things done is to be imperfect 99% of the time.

ll. I cannot, and will not try, to please everyone.
No matter what you do or how you do it, there will always be people that disagree with what you’re doing. That’s life. So don’t try please everyone. Simply do what I know is right. And remember, it doesn’t matter how many people don’t get it, it matters how many people do.

III. I will take part in something I believe in.
This could be anything. Some people take an active role in their city council, some find refuge in religious faith, some join social clubs supporting causes they believe in and others find passion in their careers. In each case the psychological outcome is the same. They engage themselves in something they strongly believe in. This engagement brings happiness and meaning into their lives.

IV. I will prioritize my obligations and do important things first.
Set priorities for yourself and act accordingly. It’s the only way to get things done. It’s the only way to turn a dream into a reality.

V. I will choose my friends wisely.
Your friends are family you choose. So make sure you choose friends who are worthy of your time and attention. Surround yourself with people who reflect the person you want to be. Choose friends who you are proud to know, people you admire, who love and respect you – people who make your day a little brighter simply by being in it.

VI. I will help others when I am able.
In life, you get what you put in. When you make a positive impact in someone else’s life, you also make a positive impact in your own life. The more you help others, the more they will want to help you.

VII. I will focus on the positive.
Positive thinking is at the forefront of every great success story. The mind must believe it can do something before it is capable of actually doing it. The way to overcome negative thoughts and destructive emotions is to develop opposing, positive emotions that are stronger and more powerful. Listen to your self-talk and replace negative thoughts with positive ones. Regardless of how a situation seems, focus on the next positive step forward.

VIII. I can only be me.
Judy Garland once said, “Always be a first rate version of yourself instead of a second rate version of somebody else.” Live by this statement. There is no such thing as living in someone else’s shoes. The only shoes you can occupy are your own. If you aren’t being yourself, you aren’t truly living – you’re merely existing. And ask yourself this: If you don’t like who you really are, why should I like you? Trying to be somebody you’re not is not sexy. Be you. That’s when you’re beautiful.

IX. I will be here now.
Life is happening right now. Instead of dwelling on the past or worrying about the future, practice being and living in the present moment. Remember, right now is the only moment guaranteed to you. Right now is life. Don’t miss it.

X. Life never gets any better, only my perception of it does.
The world around you changes when you change. If you awake every morning with the thought that something wonderful will happen in your life today, and you pay close attention, you’ll often find that you’re right. The opposite is also true. The choice is yours to make.

Forever A Man's World

Hello Everyone, Happy Friday! Sometimes I really can't believe that I live in the year 2011, that men and society in general are still so sexist! Then I see this video about Zestra that was on Nightline and I have to believe it. I have seen the commercial for Zestra once or twice on a channel like Tru TV, but now I know why it is not on the regular channels. It is not appropriate(according to male TV Executives I'm sure), to acknowledge anything that has to do with a women's sexuality. Yet it is perfectly ok for us to acknowledge a man's sexuality at least 3 or 4 times a day, as we are constantly bombarded with Viagra and Cialis commercials. Multiply that number by 10 during football season!! Never mind all the stupid emails I get for male enhancement, I mean GAWD enough already!! So I just wanted to remind all of you women out there, that even in this day and age, if you try to express yourself, or talk about an issue concerning sex, shame on you! Just you hush your mouth and get back your womanly duties like cooking and cleaning, earning as much money as you can, and being the good, proper lady, you should be! Only when and if society and/or men give you permission to fully be who you are, do so, but with caution, yes much caution LMAO! If you want a really good laugh, you've got to watch Wanda's take on Viagra, she is so right! The video is not the greatest quality, but still good and her HBO video clips are hard to find.
Enjoy,

Balance The Waves

Hello Everyone, I hope your doing good today. Don't our lives tend to ebb and flow. Moments, days, or even a couple of weeks at a time can challenge us to keep a sense of stability, emotional well being. Recently on World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer, they had a segment on the benefits of meditation. Doctors are now able to see from a medical standpoint the benefits of meditation. Even if it is just a few minutes a day, sitting in your chair, or a full practice, when your feeling out of sorts, close your eyes and say these simple loving kindness meditation practices to yourself, or chose whatever words you want to help restore you to a better place of being. In the long run, a little meditation will do you a lot of good.

Balance The Waves
Finding balance may at times feel like a struggle. Life is filled with extremes, some painful and others pleasurable. You might be grieving over the death of your beloved grandmother-and a few days later be surrounded by family and friends as you celebrate your birthday. How can we hold these two extremes without shutting down? The Buddha said the greatest happiness is to know peace that is unchanged by changing conditions. With this inner stability you can ride the waves of contrasting emotions and experiences without losing your balance. The next time you're overwhelmed by the contrast of joy and pain in your life, simply say these phrases to yourself:

"May I ride the waves of pleasure and pain with ease"
"May I be peaceful and at ease"

It's possible to experience happiness in the midst of pain and sorrow. It's possible to be happy and sad at the same time. This is part of the balance of life, and practicing acceptance of this pleasure and pain dynamic helps us let go of our need to control our experiences. Accepting this duality is the birthplace of balance.

Slumber No More

Hello Everyone, I hope your doing well, I am doing great. This is a great article on Denial by Colette Baron-Reid. Now that I am coming up on a year's sobriety next month I am so happy to be out of Denial and I can't begin to tell you how good it feels, how good I feel. My head is clearer and clearer. Even though I was not an all day, all the time drinker, I know now what they mean by being in a fog, a slumber of sorts, even though you don't think your in one. Slowly, as I went through watching 4 women suffer painful deaths, back to back within a year and half's time, I did get in the habit of drinking every night to escape the pain, and before I knew it I crossed the line. When they were all gone and buried I was left feeling like an empty shell, emotionally bankrupt. How do I start to live again? How do I get back to who I was? For the first couple of months after all that loss, I was just exhausted, mentally and physically tired. After I rested up, I went a little wild I guess you would say, tried to have to much fun! Tried to make up for that emptiness I was left with. I did some things I wish I never did, that I wish I could take back. It was, now looking back, I realize that with enough cups of courage, I had no fear! God, how it scares me now, how unsafe I allowed myself to be. How worse things could have really turned out for me. I truly believe in Guardian Angels :) Now when I wake every morning, I love having no repercussions from the night before, no drama, or craziness, I have a constant peaceful feeling that grows within me each day. I have also come to appreciate stability. Something I did not have for a while. The best things in recovery are that I have gained much needed self respect and self love for myself and from my family. I have let go of caring about what others think of me because of my past actions, that is not who I am today, if they chose to still label and judge me, it is their issue now, not mine. We all go through bad times in life, shit happens you know, my downfall was and is not the sum total of who I am :) No longer do I feel sad that friends I thought would be there for me were not. It's true when they say that they were never really a friend in the first place. I enjoy the natural high now my friends, it is by far the best, and trust me, over the years, I have tried, I think of every way to stay in the narcotic slumber that Colette Baron-Reid talks about, a behavior I learned well I realize now, from the time I was 11 yrs old to get through the madness of my Mother's Mental Illness when it was in full bloom. When you grow up being locked in your room, down the cellar, outside, chased with a hammer, you do what you need to do to survive. I included parts of Colette's article on Denial, for the full article click on the link. I hope by sharing some of my story and this article it helps anyone else that may be in the same place that I was, or maybe it will help you with a loved one who is in Denial. Life is to short to live it any other way, but fully awake :)

Close your eyes and imagine that your higher self is tapping on our shoulder to get your attention about something that you’re turning a blind eye to in your life. What situation, habit, or behavior might you not be facing, even though you sense deep down that it’s robbing you of achieving true happiness in your life. What is your intuition telling you?

Remember the scene in the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy and her pals are walking through a poppy field? At first, they’re lured with the beauty of the magnificent flowers, but soon the hypnotic opiates seduce them in a deep slumber, threatening to keep them from their goal of reaching the Emerald City. This is what denial does-it puts us to sleep and thwarts us from our dreams. It’s time to wake up!

While there are many paths that can lead us to the narcotic slumber in the Field of Poppies,(Denial) they all involve refusing to see what’s obvious. It might involve staying in a bad job or relationship while pretending it’s good. It could be not facing alcoholism and/or addictions. It could be a pattern in your life that everyone but you can see. It could be a bad habit that isn’t serving you.

To get out of the slumber of denial, you must wake up and gain the power of truth. With humility, you must tap into your innate courage to look directly at whatever you haven’t wanted to see. You must admit to the excuses you’ve been using, the self-righteous behaviors, where you’ve been lying, and where you’ve blamed others or circumstances. Then, you must love and accept all of yourself, including the wounded part of you that you’d rather avoid. Yes, the truth can be difficult and involve painful emotions, but it will also set you free.
